We are often open to guardian homes for one of our puppies! Read below to find out more and contact us if you are interested!
What is a guardian home?
This is a forever home for one of our breeding dogs. A guardian home allows the very best life for our breeding dogs. The guardian home gets a top quality dog and we get to continue breeding excellent puppies. We do not believe in kenneling dogs or keeping them outside constantly as some breeders do to expand their breeding program.
A guardian family will sign a legal contract stating all expectations. The guardian family will pay a small fee, $350, this amount may be adjusted for future homes, before taking home their dog or puppy. Each time the dog is needed for breeding the family will be compensated (details below). We compensate our guardian families more than other breeders because we want the guardian families to feel like part of our program! The guardian home will be responsible for all non breeding expenses: food, annual vet visits and vaccinations, flea and heart worm meds, etc. The breeder will be responsible for all breeding related expenses: any testing required, food during time at breeders, puppy expenses, registration fees etc.
Application and requirements:
At this time our policy is that the guardian home must be with in 1 hour of Knoxville TN. We will have each interested person fill out application questions. Guardians must have a credit score of 630 or above at the time of application and have a clean back ground. For final approval we will run a credit and background check through Smart Move, a Transunion Company.
For females:
The female dog will be bred starting during its second heat cycle. The second heat cycle can occur around 1.5 years old to 2 years old. The dog will come to stay with us and/or our collaborating breeder (stud owner) during the second heat for 7-15 days then will be returned to the guardian home.
The dog will remain with the guardian during the pregnancy and the dog will return to the breeders house 1 week before her due date, (55 days after first breeding). The dog will remain at the breeders house until the dog has weaned the puppies (5-7 weeks after puppies are born) then will return to the guardian's home. During this time the guardian family may visit the dog and puppies on a weekly basis. The guardian family will be compensated $75 per puppy once the dog returns to the guardian family. (Litters can range from 4-10 puppies)
The female dog will be under contract and bred until she turns 5-7 years old (the age will be decided before sign the contract). The dog will usually be bred each heat cycle. Each heat cycle is 7-10 months apart. The breeder also may skip a heat cycle if needed for overlapping litters, vacations, or vet recommendations. The breeder will pay for the dog to get spayed, the contract will end, and the ownership of the dog will transfer to the guardian home when it is time to retire the dog.
The guardian will agree to keep the dog inside mostly and the dog will have access to a fenced in yard or be taken out with a leash to prevent any unwanted litters. The guardian will agree to keep the dog awhile from any intact males during her heat.
For males:
Once the dog is 1 year old he will be used in breeding. When he is needed for breeding he will stay with the breeder for 4-10 days and then be returned to the guardian. This will occur 2- 8 times a year. Each time the guardian will be compensated $200. The dog will be under contract for 8 years. After 8 years the breeder will have the dog neutered at the breeders expense and the ownership of the dog will be transferred to the guardian home.
The guardian will agree to keep the dog mostly inside and the dog will have access to a fenced in yard or be taken out with a leash to prevent any unwanted litters.
